FAQ

Is this affiliated with BasePaint?

No — BaseQuest is an independent fan project that displays real BasePaint artwork through its public image endpoints. It isn't built or endorsed by the BasePaint team.

Do I need to sign in to play?

No. You can play everything — puzzles, Explore, quests — as a guest, saved locally on your device. Signing in with email is only needed if you want your progress saved to your account and synced across devices.

Is my email/password account secure?

Yes — accounts are backed by Supabase Auth, a real backend. Your password is never stored in plaintext, sessions are handled server-side with secure cookies, and every database table uses Row Level Security so you can only ever read or write your own data.

Where is my progress saved?

Everything (XP, streak, favorites, achievements, quest progress, settings) is saved in your browser's local storage. You can export a backup or import one from Settings.

Why isn't there a global leaderboard yet?

A real leaderboard needs accounts and a backend to compare players fairly. That's intentionally deferred — BaseQuest today is local-only, so a fake leaderboard would just be misleading.

Why can some artworks say “temporarily unavailable”?

BasePaint's very latest canvas can still be mid-paint and not fully rendered yet. BaseQuest retries automatically and falls back to a clear message instead of showing a broken image.
